Idris Fiery Ginger Beer

My soda is taunting me.  “Try me if you dare!!”  So emphatic that they had to use two exclamation points.  They even incorporate a devil’s tail into the font.  Idris Fiery Ginger Beer is what’s threatening me today.  It’s sweetened with sugar and has real deal ginger root extract in it as well.  This also may have one of the most amusing ingredients I’ve ever seen…”Flavouring”.

Look who figured out how to put the picture lower in the review again!

Flavouring is about as generic as you can get with an ingredient, but before I can make fun of them for that they immediately impress me by saying how many kilojoules the can contains.  For those interested it’s 498 kilojoules or 6% of your daily recommended intake.

So I’ve now seen “Flavouring” with a “u” and kilojoule amounts listed on this can.  It’s safe to say this isn’t from America.  A quick glance shows me this was made in the UK making things all the more clear for me.  Well, I feel as if I’ve been taunted enough.  Time to take the challenge head on.

There is so much ginger and spice in there it smells like a bathroom cleaner more than a ginger beer… GREAT!  If you’re going to go all in on the “Fiery” taste mechanic, then smelling like toxic chemicals is the way to my heart.  Just so you know, it may smell like a chemical, but it still smells pretty dang good.

BOOOOO!  That wasn’t spicy at all. Let me try another taste.  Nope.  Idris Fiery Ginger Beer isn’t that fiery at all.  Reed's Extra Ginger Brew would put this in the ground in terms of burn, so I’m going to have to say that I’ve met the challenge easily.

Now that I’ve sufficiently mocked this soda, it’s time for me to tell you that it’s it’s flavor is quite tasty.  Ginger has showed up to class and is sitting on the front row.  First thing you notice when you walk in the room as the substitute teacher.

The second thing you’re going to notice is the small bubbly kid behind her giggling.  Darting in and out of view, using Ginger’s voluminous hair as a blockade.  This, for those of you who aren’t fond of my prose, is the carbonation.  The two items may not be the best of friends, but they work side by side with one another without even realizing it.

Finally you’re going to see one more kid in the class.  He’s a little odd as you see him sitting in the very back, doesn’t really seem to belong.  His name is Citrus.

Citrus constantly looks like he’s going to do something bad.  Always glaring at you, always sneering at you, mumbling under his breath… yet he never does.  You keep your eye on him the entire time, just waiting for trouble… it never comes.  Citrus demands your attention, but ultimately just sits in the background and gets noticed.

That’s your class, your very small class, that you’re teaching today.  The other kids are probably skipping school because they knew you were a pushover sub.

What this equates to is a pretty tasty ginger beer.  Idris Fiery Ginger Beer may not be the spiciest, or in the top three spiciest, ginger beer I’ve ever had.  Spicy or not though it’s a great soda.  I let three others folks sample it and all three enjoyed it quite a bit.  They all commented on the amount of ginger being just right for what it was…and I agree.
